This is a period Windsor rocker in a Scarce Childs Size. The Hitchcock Stenciling is of a Horse in Gold Gilt and is Extremely Old and over the Original Red Paint underneath. There is also evidence of Old Green Paint on the bottom of the seat as well. Probably dating to around 1850 or before as it has the old plank seat. Unfortunately it is not in MINT condition as it has wear to the paint and evidence of repairs. This however should endear it to you as it shows how Valued the rocker has been over the centuries having been repaired by its multitude of Owners and Cherished instead of being discarded. What child of the early Eighteen Hundreds (or even today) would not have loved rocking in this magnificent creation of the furniture makers art?! The stenciling is very old, although not original as the original paint can be seen underneath the black paint with the stenciling. Not sure if you could strip this down to the original paint underneath or if it would even be advisable as the black paint and stenciling is charming and has a great patina. The rocker measures Twenty Two Inches tall and Fifteen Inches across the Fan Back, and is Ten and a half Inches tall up to the plank seat off of the floor. The plank seat is generally Twelve Inches deep although it is corseted so not the same width uniformly. I tried to picture the condition of the paint and the evident repairs as well as I could.  This wonderful piece of early Folk Art would be wonderful for your child or grand child, or even your favorite Doll or Teddy Bear. Only shipping and handling charges will be charged, no extra fees. I will combine shipping charges should you wish to purchase multiple items.
