In the 1920's Skira commissioned Picasso to create a series of etchings to illustrate 'Les Metamorphoses' by Ovid. Thirty etchings were created, 15 full page and 15 as half page chapter headers. Picasso took several years to complete this work and they were published in 1931. The resulting publication is considered as a landmark illustrated book of the 20th Century. The etchings are considered as the finest works from Picasso's Neoclassical period. The book was not bound, the pages being laid in a boxed format. The edition was limited to 145 copies. In 1970 Skira and Picasso published a facsimile edition in the same format as the 1931 edition. This edition was limited to 3000 copies. This superb image is full page, blank verso and in excellent condition. It comes with a copy of the Justification Du Tirage and a copy of the Title page.
