CONDITION: This work is in very good condition with full margins and a visible plate mark. DISCUSSION: Beautiful and compelling, simplistic and evocative, this original etching by Pablo Picasso was created from his signature Vollard suite in the late 1920s. On the left we see the profile of the "modèle" shown in full dress and shoes to match. Along the right side of the composition, we see our artist behind his canvas, capturing his subject in all her femininity. This is a departure from many of Picasso's model/artist studies, as she is indeed, "habillé", or dressed. The chaise lounge on which she sits allows the shape of her body to rest in a more organic, fluid position, angling her posture and accentuating her form. Created in 1927, this original etching has been printed on Montval paper featuring the Vollard watermark. This work is an artist's proof before steel-facing and beveling, aside from the edition of 55. ABOUT THE FRAMING: Conservation framed with archival materials and museum quality, this work is set in a bronze, Baroque-style frame. The golden hues of the moulding compliment the rich deep tones and accentuate the bright colors of this work. The sculptural details also serve to enhance Picasso's rhythmic and iconic stroke throughout the drawing.
