Description
Up for auction is this fresh original pastel from a local Montauk, NY artist, Ingrid Torjesen. Size is 19" x 10" matted, each pastel is 5 x 8" on paper, matted by threes. Her pastels are playful, colorful and beachy- they look wonderful with several grouped on a wall. Here is a review of her work:    Montauk Pioneer October 11, 2002. The East End Show, Depot Gallery By Lise Visser "Sucess mixes with the salt air here." "...Ingrid Torjesen's oil paintings, brilliantly executed, exhibit strength in design that surpasses the usual wet, impressionist seascapes. Ms. Torjesen was influenced by the drawing and paintings of her grandfather and great uncle, who both painted seascapes. Her insightful pieces represent the beaches with a technique built on balancing warm with cool colors and sharp contrasts. Strong shadows reinforce the powerful compositions. Ropes and rigging become serpentine - not threatening, but charmed." Artist Bio: Born in Brooklyn, New York, Ingrid Torjesen grew up drawing and painting, surrounded by the paintings of her Grandfather and Great Uncle, both Norwegian seascape painters. She studied Fine Art at the H.S. of Art & Design in New York City, including intensive instruction in life drawing and painting classes in traditional oil painting techniques with Irwin Greenberg. Ingrid moved to Montauk, New York in 1994, inspired by the natural beauty of the area, and discoved a renewed passion for painting landscapes and seascapes on location. She exhibits locally in gallery and museum shows. Ingrid Torjesen’s realistic paintings focus on the raw natural beauty of local beaches, expressed in a surreal style. Her work explores the diverse and unique elements that make up this dynamic landscape such as driftwood in its many shapes and forms and the many varieties of glacial rocks which characterize the shoreline on the East End of Long Island. Torjesen’s compositions express the relationship between objects... Stones are more than stones, they stand majestic, wise, eternal. Driftwood seems to have arrived at its final resting place and gazes out to sea. Ingrid Torjesen's abstract paintings illustrate a strong attraction to the creative imagination and intuitive painting, inspired from both memory and dreams. She also incorporates found objects, mesh, gold leafing, and poetry into her work, so they become collage creations. More info on this web site:http://www.absolutearts.com/portfolios/t/torjesen/
