Description
Rare find for the R.C. Gorman collector. A mini Collection consisting of a Bronze Bust of Gorman by Ellie Hamilton, an Artist and friend of Mr. Gorman signed by R.C. Gorman and the Artist Hamilton ; Artist Proof Photo of Mr. Gorman with the Bronze, signed by Chuck Henningsen and the Book, “R.C. Gorman, a portrait”, by Stephen Parks and Chuck Henningsen, depicting R.C. Gorman’s art and life including Ellie Hamilton. The Bronze is a limited edition, (13/20), Original made in 1980 of a younger Gorman. The Bronze Bust measures 16”H X 11.5”W X 11.5”D. It is on a wood base that is 2.75”H X 12.5”W X 13.5”D. The Artist Proof Photograph is 17.5”X 12.5”; framed dimensions are 25.5”X 21.5” 1931-2005 - R.C. Gorman is considered by many to be the premiere Indian artist. The New York Times quoted him as being the Picasso of American Indian Art. A man of today in every sense, his art reflects the racial memory and experience of an ancient people that remains timeless and universal. The deceptively simple, lyrical lines of his drawings provoked the New York Times to title him "The Picasso of American Indian Art." His work, especially the lithographs, drawings and bronzes, is collected as often by lovers of contemporary art as by those specializing in Indian Art. Sadly R.C. Gorman passed away on November 5th, 2005, he will be missed. Tragically, Ellie Hamilton was killed October 7, 1982 in a mountain climbing accident. She was only in her 20’s so little has been written of Ms. Hamilton and the appreciation of her talent has not yet been experienced  outside of her Taos Community/Family.
