CALAVAS GAY MALE NUDE PHOTO (25pics) c1895' Description  "Academies".  These early male nude figure studies  were made in the 1800's in  Paris and Rome for the education of artists but in fact gratifying a rather wider secton of the middle-class male population.  Similar studies were made by Gaudenzio Marconi and Louis Igout.10" high x 6 17/16" wide. single ply paper, albumen (?) print. japanese hinged. mounted on 4 ply archival mat board with 8 ply window in excellent condition. no defects.  This is not a collage of pasted images.  This is one photograph. The 25 images are on the same contact plate.This photograph is by A. Calavas and probably comes from "For the Use of Artists (1895)" .  Calavas is both the photographer and the editor (A. Calavas, Editeur 68 Rue de Lafayette, Paris). Emanuel Cooper in "Fully Exposed : The Male Nude in Photography" states "sheets of nude studies such as "For the Use of Artists (1895) taken by Calavas were the means of making known the poses available.  Each study has a number and one published sheet has a study number".   Place a Bid!
