Description
RARE ORIGINAL BOOK ILLUSTRATION BY DAVID PALLADINI 1979 David Palladini is an American illustrator, best known for his Aquarian Tarot decks and children's book illustrations. His style is reminiscent of the Art Nouveau illustrations of Alfons Mucha and Aubrey Beardsley. THIS RARE ORIGINAL WORK OF ART was rendered in pencil and ink on Bienfeng velour paper. The photograph does not due it justice. The colors are vibriant, there is a lot of texture from his pen and pencil work on this soft paper that can not be seen in a 2D photograph. The artwork itself measures 8.5" x10.5" with a paper border of approx 1.5". Commissioned as a book illustration in the late 70s, this piece is an exceptional example of David Palladini's work during a very prolific time at the height of his popularity. I first met David Palladini in college where he taught illustration in the 70s and 80s in New York City. He gave me this illustration in 1979 as a gift and signed it on the back. It's been in a number of frames over the years and the velour paper shows small marks where it had been mounted, but the artwork itself is in pristine condition. I knew David Palladini 30 years ago when he often sold his book illustrations to collectors for between $1500-$5000. This work has appreciated with time, and considering the scarcity of his work available in the marketplace assures that the opening bid is well-under priced. David moved to the south of France in the 90s with most of his life's work in tow. Tragedy struck and he was burglarized with a lifetime of his work stolen. Since that tragic event in France, he's reluctant to part with his work. That's why this David Palladini original illustration is such an exceptional find for an art collector. The artwork comes unframed, secured packaged and shipped by registered mail. Insurance is highly recommended and the additional cost of insurance will be calculated according to the final winning bid. Email me with any questions. Good luck and happy bidding!
