Description
Framed Original Watercolor and Pencil - EXTREMELY COLLECTIBLE. These have been in my family since the 1930's. The "Vera" signature is very clear on one drawing only, so it is important to have the pair. These are original works of art. They are EARLY WORKS of Vera Neumann (see history of VERA below). They are in the original frames and have never been out of their frames or from behind the glass. Delicate drawings on what appears to be handmade paper. Young ladies, these are very lovely in person. My camera was unable to capture the correct coloration of the paper due to lighting, but you can get a feel for the drawings through the pictures here. The paper looks handmade, it is pitted. One girl has a dusty rose colored rose on her hat and bodice, bluish-gray eyes, pink lips. The other girl looks the same, but is wearing a different hat with colored flowers, a bow around her neck, with flowers around her. Dimensions in frames are: 15 3/4" high, 13 1/2" wide, 1 1/2 inches deep. Will ship by UPS, insurance included in price. Item Condition is excellent, the frames are a little beat up. Year of production is unknown. Based on information from my grandmother, they are probably from the late 1930's. No refunds are available for this purchase. Shipping available by USPS or UPS, and WILL include insurance, or buyer may pick up in person by emailing seller. Contact seller for further information. Payment must be made within 5 business day, PayPal preferred. ABOUT VERA NEUMANN (1910-1993) Best known by her fans simply be her first name, Vera's work in the decorative arts is a cornerstone within the "Mod" movement. Her career began in New York City in 1946, when she turned her kitchen table into a studio space for silkscreening floral designs on to placemats. From there the Vera empire boomed, and her product line eventually expanded from these hand made pieces to ceramics, textiles, sportswear, wallpaper, and virtually any other type of home or personal accessory imaginable. Her scarves were considered high fashion in the late 60's. Also be on the lookout for Vera's fine arts. Her works on paper are outstanding if you can find an example! It all started with a placemat... When Vera the artist met George Neumann the textile merchant, he encouraged her to put her art on placemats. She began to make placemats on her kitchen table. But when she went out to find more linen and cotton, she couldn't - it was the mid-1940's, and there was a war going on. What she did find was plenty of parachute silk! So instead of placemats, Vera and George began making silk scarves. Known worldwide simply as Vera, her name became synonymous with her sophisticated designs, brilliant colors and ladybug trademark. Sold in over 20,000 stores, her work - on scarves, apparel, home linens, dishes and even umbrellas - turned millions of people into art collectors. Vera's company grew into one of the most successful textile design businesses ever. With boundless energy Vera created about one design per day over four decades. She kept a team of up to twenty design assistants busy rendering her concepts and sketches. Vera's designs were so well liked, and the demand for Vera products so great, that others started to copy her work. In response she trademarked her signature and registered her designs. But upon her death in 1993, Vera's collection was packed away and nearly lost forever. With its recent rediscovery, Vera's art will again bring joy to those who remember her. And to those who will discover Vera for the first time.
