Description
Robert Bateman is a keen artist and naturalist who always painted wildlife and nature, beginning with a representational style, moving through impressionism and cubism to abstract expressionism. In his early thirties he moved back to realism as a more suitable way to express the particularity of the planet. It is this style that made him one of the foremost artists depicting the world of nature. "White Encounter" captures the heart stopping moment of a fearful encounter with exquisite realism and depth. One of his most powerful and desirable works, "White Encounter" has appreciated in a steady march over the years. This print has been with me since 1981 when I purchased it from Frazier's Gallery in Boise, Idaho. When I first saw this powerful work by Robert Bateman I was struck by the artist's notation, "...the thought occurred to me about traveling in the Arctic. What if you entered the drift and, unknown to you, a polar bear entered the drift from the other side? By the time you both knew this, it would be too late. With polar bears, it is important to see them from as far away as possible." This signed lithograph on paper number 673 of 950 issued (far more valuable than the recent Giclee on Canvas release), is matted and framed, and will be shipped overnight UPS, insured for the full amount of purchase at no additional charge.
