It was painted in 1986 by the world famous space artist Robert T. McCall (http://www.mccallstudios.com/bio.html) The painting measures approximately 48"x72" and it gives a grand view of what space travel and exploration may look like in the 21st century. The painting was a centerpiece of the Smithsonian Traveling Exposition "Pioneering the Space Frontier" which toured the nation for 28 months starting in the fall of 1989. Robert McCall is highly acclaimed as a space artist and is celebrated for his visionary masterpieces. His World War II service in the Army Air Corps inspired a lifelong interest in aerospace subjects. He was among the first artists to be invited into NASA's fine arts program, he has documented such historical events as the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo missions. His multi-story murals in Smithsonian Museum and the National Air and Space Museum and his paintings for such films as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Trek: The Motion Picture are regarded as icons. Two of the 21 U.S. postage stamps he designed were cancelled on the moon.This painting is original and in excellent condition.
