Matthew Cullerne Bown is a leading British authority on Soviet Impressionist Art. Artist's Biography Kudelkin, Victor Ivanovich (1911-1996) Prominent Russian painter. Born in Alatyr, Simbirsk reg., 1911. Master of portrait. Famous also for his genre paintings depicting episodes of labor. Graduated in 1938 from the Cheboksary (Chuvashia) art school. Studied in Moscow Repin Art Institute*. From 1955-resided in the city of Kazan being the most reputable artist awarded with every imaginable title of the Tatar republic. The works of Kudelkin are preserved at the State Tretyakov Gallery* in Moscow, at the State Art Museums of Kazan, Cheboksary and at the collection Charles and Emma Frye art Museum in the USA. Important shows include: All-Union Art Exhibition*, Moscow, 1951. Soviet Russia*, Moscow, 1960. The works of the Artist, Kudelkin, V.I. are now in private collections in Italy, England, Germany and the United States. The works of Kudelkin are sold in the auctions all over the world. Kudelkin, V.I. is listed in the Dictionary of Twentieth Century Russian and Soviet Painters 1900-1980 by the Britain Scholar Matthew Cullerne Bown. Explanations of terms: All-Union Art Exhibitions:The biggest regular national exhibition of soviet artists. Beginning from 1946 each two years, the great exhibition took place (mostly in Moscow, but sometimes in Leningrad). It was a final competition of artists that ended zonal and regional exhibitions all over the country. It was quite important for the artists to win the right to exhibit their works at the show because State museums and other Public Institutes used to buy paintings from there. Soviet Russia: An exhibition held in Moscow in 1960 to celebrate the formation of the Russian Artists' Union. The most important show devoted to purely Russian (as opposed to Soviet) art since ARTISTS OF THE RUSSIAN FEDERATION OVER FIFTEEN YEARS (1932-33) Tretyakov Gallery One of the most respected and well-known galleries in Russia and former Soviet Union.
