During the 1930s the studio provided training for amateur artists within the ranks of the military; during the Second World War it was transformed into a studio for professional artists working on military subjects.   All-Union Art Exhibitions: The biggest regular national exhibition of soviet artists. Beginning from 1946 each two years, the great exhibition took place (mostly in Moscow, but sometimes in Leningrad). It was a final competition of artists that ended zonal and regional exhibitions all over the country. It was quite important for the artists to win the right to exhibit their works at the show because State museums and other Public Institutes used to buy paintings from there.     Stalin Prize: The Stalin prizes were inaugurated in 1939 to reward high achievement in the arts and sciences. The first prizes for painting were awarded in 1941. The prizes conferred considerable prestige and a large sum of money.
