Description
BEST OFFER--see below Someone Else's Problem is a group of a six life-size human figures. The simple, abstract, geometrical form of each figure has one area that is irregular, suggesting an imperfection. Each of the figures is pointing at an imperfection in one of the other figures, while ignoring its own imperfection. The mask-like faces express their displeasure (or is it pleasure?) in confronting “someone else’s problem”. (Do you know anyone like that?) The tallest point of the sculpture is about 7' and the whole arrangement fills an area about 8' in diameter. (This won't work in a small room.) The figures are constructed of wood and painted with a non-gloss paint. Each figure weighs about 60 pounds. I don’t recommend it for a location where children may try to climb on it. This sculpture was made as an indoor sculpture. Due to its size, I recognize that few people have an appropriate indoor location and I have considered the possibility of placing it outdoors. If drainage around its base were carefully considered, and if it were placed out of direct sun, it would probably be OK, but I cannot guarantee it. The paint is exterior alkyd paint. It would need to be inspected at least once a year for any cracks or paint chips that might allow water to penetrate. Preferably it would be protected by some sort of roof (a gazebo?). In any outdoor setting the sculpture will age more quickly than an indoor setting. If you are considering bidding on it for an outdoor location, please consult with me about the specifics of the setting to be sure it is feasible. Please see my About Me page for pictures of some of my other sculptures and for a general artist's statement about my work. That page also contains a link to my web site where you can see over 100 pictures of my other sculptures, wall pieces, and mobiles. The original price was $13,500--based upon the months of labor involved in its design and construction. I have limited storage space in my studio, so I would really like to sell it now and place it in a location where someone will appreciate it. I am now willing to consider reasonable offers.) This piece has been exhibited at: The Asheville Art Museum (NC) 19th Sculpture Celebration (Lenoir, NC) The Fayetteville Museum of Art (NC) Art Museum of Western Virginia; (Roanoke, VA) Mars Hill College (NC) Community Council for the Arts (Kinston, NC) The Upstairs Gallery (Tryon, NC) Mitchell Community College (Statesville, NC) The auction price does NOT include delivery or shipping. Please contact me before bidding to negotiate a reasonable fee for me to deliver the sculpture. I can probably deliver it for less money than a third party shipper, and I can set the sculpture up properly for you, and apply any touch-up paint, if needed, when I deliver. I will also accept payment by: money order, cashier's check, and PayPal. Payment must be made (or arrangements agreed upon) within one week of the close of the auction.
