Description
TWO ORIGINAL CLASSICAL DRAWINGS BY SIR JOHN GILBERT: 1) THE ENCAMPMENT an original graphite drawing 1887 by Sir John Gilbert. An unsigned drawing, but dated 10th. Nov. 87 (1887) by the artist. The drawing in very good condition, there appears to be an old fold in the sheet that is very light, and on cream colored paper. With a sheet of 5 x 8.. 2) THE APPROACH OF THE FAMILY an original graphite drawing C. 1880 by Sir John Gilbert. Signed with initials by the aritst. The drawing in very good condition, the sheet was neatly folded into thirds in the past. These folds are not disturbing to the image. This original drawing is on off white paper. With a sheet size of 9 x 6 3/4.5 x 8 A wonderful pair of drawings by this listed artist. Sir John was knighted in 1872 for his artistic achievements. He was a member of the Royal Academy, and President of the Old Watercolor Society. SiR John exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Society of British Artists, and many other European venues. He was nicknamed the Scott of Painting because of his preferance of medieval chivalric subjects in his work.
