Description ELLEN - an original sketch with watercolor of a dogs by Sir John Gilbert. The work is titled by the artist in pencil. The drawing in very good condition. On cream colored watercolor paper. With a sheet size of 9 x 4 3/4. Sir John was knighted in 1872 for his artistic achievements. He was a member of the Royal Academy, and President of the Old Watercolor Society. SiR John exhibited at the Royal Academy, the Society of British Artists, and many other European venues. He was nicknamed the Scott of Painting because of his preferance of medieval chivalric subjects in his work. I obtained this watercolor sketch in a collection of Sir John's work at a distinguished British Auction House. Many of the art works were signed with Sir John's monogram and initials. The collection also came with invitations and letters addressed to Sir Joh. I am 100% positive that the above watercolor sketch is by Sir John Gilbert. A very RARE opportunity to place a major 19th.
