Description
A Beautifully Detailed, Original Plan for New South Church in Springfield, Massachusetts. HAND-COLORED. The plan is designed by W. A. Potters, New York. From the American Architect and Building News, December 2, 1876 In 1871 because of the changing nature of the city, the church needed a new building. The lot at the corner of Maple and High Streets was purchased for $37,000. The eventual cost to build the new church, including the land, was $145,000. It took four years to complete the building, which had incurred a debt of $45,000, which was not paid off until 1885. . This picture is extremely hard to find, as the American Architect and Building News not only had a very small circulation during that time, but very few were actually preserved as these have been. The plan has a perspective view. The print includes a neutral mat with 2 inch border and foam core backing. The picture measures 13.5 by 20 inches (with border). A finely detailed and beautifully hand-colored architectural plan. Shrink wrapped. Picture is in VG+ condition. This is a highly unusual, scarce item. See our other auctions for more hand-painted original plans.
