The scene here, however, is not Rome, as Nicolle generally favored, but a monastery somewhere in France. The vantage point is evidently a monk's cell, and we look out onto the cloister and the church beyond. Lovely feeling of perspective from inside the cell, What skilled work in a tiny space! The drawing measures about 4.75 inches by 3.5 inches. The attractive, modern floating mat and frame bring it out to about 10.5 inches by 8.5 inches. Condition appears very good to excellent. A little jewel from the generation of Hubert Robert, offered at a very moderate opening price and with no reserve.
