Description
For sale from my personal collection is this original color pencil design sketch on tissue by the great Syd Mead. Mead art rarely surfaces for sale. This particular piece was created during the 1960s for a book on futuristic tractors & farming. I don't own a copy of the actual book and have only seen it once many years ago. I believe it was for Allis Chalmers. This design must be for a gyroscopically-balanced tractor with a single tank-style track. Would you expect anything less from the man who made Blade Runner and Tron worth watching?Condition: The piece has three vertical folds and two stains at the top (mirror images of each other). There is some minor smudging to the piece. Overall it is a very presentable piece. The piece is not signed or dated but is guaranteed to be a Mead piece. Dimensions are 16" x 14" (40.6 cm x 35.6 cm). Please email me if you have any questions.***** I've had some inquiries about the drawing and will try to answer some of the questions here. I acquired the piece from a personal friend of Syd's. This piece was given to this man directly by Syd in either in the late-1960s or early-1970s. For provenance purposes I will provide the name of this man to the winner of the auction.Regarding the stains, I believe these can be matted out when the piece is framed. I do not consider them a detractor. As far as rarity... the last original Mead sketches I saw on Ebay was over seven years ago. They were from the movie Tron. They went for a lot more than my reserve on this tractor. So, here's your chance to finally own original Mead artwork. Good luck with the bidding ******
