Condition: In Excellent Condition! Description: Original Lithograph in four colors from “Les Affiches Illustrees” Designed, inked, printed and published by the Jules Cheret studio, Imprimere Chaix, Paris, France, 1898. This and others posters from the master collection “Le Maitres de l’Affiche are referred to as AFTERS, meaning work that was published after the death of an artist, even though the artist (Lautec) and publisher (Cheret) were living but had nothing to do with the creation of this smaller poster, design, inking or lithography printing. ‘MOULIN ROUGE - La GOULUE’ was one of Toulouse-Lautrec’s most important pieces of work, simply because it captured the very essence of the infamous dance hall and cabaret, and at the time, the very risqué Cancan, being performed by the famous dancer ‘La Goulue’ with her loose-limbed partner Valentin Le Desosse (the boneless). The original 6 foot poster launched his poster making career and made him famous overnight. Original brushwork along with Lautrec’s trademark “spatter” meld a delightful coloration of rich red, vibrant yellow, blended green and deep black along with small intimate detail. The original poster is commanding and it’s composition startling and memorable. His choice of subject was revolutionary, making the first time that specific “stars” had been used to advertise a place of entertainment. About the Framing: The lithograph has been stored in and is being sold with an archival acid-free museum beige linen mat with yellow and white filets in a gold frame. "Since an original full size version sold for $ 241,500 US in 1999, the highest price ever paid for a vintage poster at that time, this smaller 11” X 15” piece would be an excellent investment of surely one the most sought after posters ever created." A Litograph from this same edition sold for $ 12,500.00 in the first quarter of 2007 at a gallery in Carmel, California.
