Bill Barker (b. 1941) Bill Barker lives with his wife in West Liberty, Kentucky, and works for the state highway department. He was born and raised in the area, but after graduating from high school he went to Indiana for twelve years where he worked in the steel mills. He returned to Kentucky in 1974. In about 1994 he started carving his “space chicken” and other figures out of pine knots. In addition to the chickens he makes salamanders, bugs, stick men, and lizards-or whatever else comes to his mind. He paints his whimsical figures in very bright colors, often with dots or other patterns. His work is found in many private collections and several museums, including: Kentucky Folk Art Center Owensboro Museum of Fine Art Huntington Museum of Fine Art Smithsonian Institution
