Amazing character & craftsmanship in these two highly stylized, large works in a heavy, exotic wood. The detail with which these pieces were crafted & colored is quite amazing...clearly executed by a master carver with a fantastic imagination. Carvings were gifted to a University of Colorado Medical Center surgeon in thanks for his amazing care. I purchased these pieces from the Physicians estate & the family let me know that these carvings were a permanent fixture on their fathers office book shelves for as long as they could remember. Incredible pieces that will enhance any Americana, folk art collection. No obvious makers marks or signature. Excellent vintage condition...extremely light wear with incredible patina. There are holes in the hands of both figures...I assume that they were holding instruments...the family could not remember. I placed a wooden match in the nurses hand as a thermometor.
