Is it just me or does this mysterious Spanish / Native American beauty resemble Penelope Cruz? A tall, tapered & poetic portrait vase, this PRISTINE glazed / painted solid ceramic / earthenware form made from warm beige clay body is absolutely stunning. The signature resembles TONOFF & the item was discovered in Providence, RI. According to research there was a Eugene TONOFF, once affiliated w/ the Rhode Island School of Design, who in the 1970s ran an area painting school / gallery w/ Anthony Dattoro. The varied graphic motifs (some slightly encised scraffitto) are reminiscent in approach to Picasso & Miro; her sensual / well-articulated 2D face appears to extend out from the level curved plane & features a primitive bird henna-like tattoo decoration. Some artists of note who alledgedly studied w/ "Gene" (Jean?) Tonoff are: Fotini Hamidieli, Kate Huntington, Rosa M.
